FORT WORTH, TX (April 6, 2002) - Jack Sprague and his No. 24 NetZero Chevrolet team showed how hard work and dedication paid off to finish second in the rain delayed O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway Saturday.

"I'm certainly not disappointed with our finish.  Man we had a great car, but so did Nemecheck, Riggs and so did the No. 27 car.  I'm disappointed that it was called because of rain, but I also don't know that I would have won it if it stayed green."

 "We were leading the thing you know?  My car was a little tight, but we ran better the first half of the race.  We had no choice, but to take four tires on that last stop.  It's just one of them deals.  You take two tires and you might have a shot at winning the race, but you're in jeopardy of being passed quick.  Take four tires and you know you can stay up front.  This NetZero Chevy was awesome and the guys did a great job in the pits.  These guys are some of the best when it comes to going of the wall and it really paid off today.  We qualified and finished the best so far this year here and we're second in the points. We're getting closer and closer each week."

Sprague's red, black and silver NetZero Monte Carlo began the weekend with a great start as Spring Lake, MI native posted the seventh quickest time in qualifying, a lap of 191.591 miles per hour on the 1.5-mile ultra-fast Texas tri-oval.

   "The car wasn't bad at the end of practice and figured we'd okay for qualifying," Sprague said.  "I was a little tight on the second lap, so I had to fluff it a bit, but tight isn't that bad.  I can't complain with starting seventh.  It's a lot closer than we've been qualifying so far and hopefully we start building on that."

            The NetZero Chevy was a little loose getting in and tick tight getting off the corners, but Sprague's hotrod was screaming its way through traffic.  NASCAR threw a mandatory caution flag on Lap 40 and that's when things kicked up a notch.  And BAM, Sprague's No. 24 crew ripped off a 15.53 second pit stop, putting the three-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion leading the race.

            Sprague led the race until the caution came out for the final time on Lap 106.  Sprague's NetZero crew dominated pit road once again.  Sprague took on four tires and had the car to beat, but Jeff Purvis, driver of the No. 37 car only took on two tires and crossed the line at the end of pit road ahead of Sprague.  On Lap 118 the event was officially called due to heavy rain. 

"This track is just so incredibly fast," said Sprague, a winner in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race a year ago at Texas. " I'm a racecar driver and love to go fast, but sometimes you have to draw the line.  Theoretically, we're going faster on this 1.5-mile track than we are at Daytona, so you can imagine what we're feeling out there.  Don't get me wrong, I love Texas and have had good runs here.  I even won here, but I'm glad everyone is safe.  We've got some really good notes to bring home and now we're looking forward to Nashville.  It'll be my second time there, but the first in a Busch Series car.  I'm not really sure what we can take from last year's Truck Series race, so we're basically starting from scratch."

 Sprague earned $58,775.00 for his second place finish and is now second in the championship standings, 23 points out of first place.

The Pepsi 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Nashville Superspeedway will take the green flag Saturday, April 13 at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.  The event will be the seventh of 34 NASCAR Busch Series races this season and will be telecast live on FX. MRN Radio will also broadcast the race live.
