JACK SPRAGUE QUOTES:

ON STATUS OF INJURED FOOT: “My heel is doing pretty good. It will be two more weeks before I can walk on it so that part is hard but the pain is pretty much gone. I feel comfortable about running the short track race at Martinsville without any problems.”

ON MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY: I won the pole at Martinsville last spring and qualified tenth for the fall race and as I said that was probably one of the last places I expected to win a pole. We were very competitive both races with a strong Chevy Trucks Silverado. We finished third in the spring 2004 and if we hadn’t had trouble and gotten in a wreck, we were a serious contender to win the fall race too.

“We know what it takes to run fast there and we just tested there for this race and we have as good a truck or better than last year. Chris (Showalter, crew chief) and the guys have been working so hard this year, we have had trucks at every race capable of winning; we just need some racing luck on our side. I am just ready to go racing.

“It is a fun track but it takes a ton of patience to run all the laps to put yourself in contention to win the race. We have the right truck, we just need to bide our time and get ourselves in a position to make a run for it when it is time to go.”

ON 2005 SEASON: “All three races so far have been as exciting and competitive as I have ever seen in any series. We have a group of veterans that are hungry to put another win on their resumes and a talented group of young drivers wanting to make names for themselves to give them a shot to move up to Cup someday. It is a great formula for everyone. As a competitor, it puts the driver solidly in the equation and as a fan there isn’t any better racing anywhere”
