JACK SPRAGUE QUOTES:
ON RACING AT KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY: “We
had a pretty wild finish at Kentucky last year with Bobby
Hamilton. I know it had to shock him as much as it shocked
me. He was the class of the field all night but he just must
not have gotten his tires cleaned off when we had that next
to the last restart and he was wobbling in the corner. I got
a good run on the outside and he came up to protect the spot
so I dove down and got underneath him and I got in the lead.
I thought man this can't be happening. I looked back and saw
David (Starr) racing him pretty hard and I thought 'Man I
could luck in to this thing and win it.' I have lost a few
this way. But the caution came out again and I thought he
(Hamilton) is a pretty smart old guy and he isn't going to
make the same mistake again and he didn't. We took off on
the restart and neither one of us even cracked the gas, we
both went into one wide open and never lifted. He got underneath
me and motored me off through two. I was able to hang with
him but it was unbelievable.
"Kentucky is the kind of a track that allows you that
luxury. It is a great track so you have confidence when you
are racing hard heading in to turn one that you know what
you are dealing with as far as the race track goes.
"I wanted to win the thing and not finish second but
when you get to race a guy like Bobby that hard for a win,
it is fun so it makes second not quite so bad."
ON 2005 SEASON TO DATE: “We have
had a pretty up and down season so far. We go three steps
forward and two back. But the morale on this Chevy Trucks
Silverado team is high and we know we are as competitive as
anyone out there, we just need a little more luck to fall
our way.”
